Each day, of the three days in the session, we have a fantastic variety of situations that get you playing, improving on your instrument, and get you inspired like never before. We also build in a lot of breaks to allow us to rest our ears and eyes, and to stretch our legs!

Friday

January 26th

Welcome Meeting - Meet the faculty, and get the lay of the land for JazzWire Winter Summit 2024 -- Jeff Antoniuk & Faculty.
10:15 - 11:45AM
Improv Group - This is the core of the camp! Our Faculty will give you improvisation ideas, play with you, and let you try things out in real time, working from the 7 songs. -- Jeff Antoniuk & Chase Sanborn

Break - 15 minute break - Rest your ears and your eyes!

Instrument Specific Masterclass - Spend time digging into the nuts and bolts of your specific instrument. Work on the individual techniques that are crucial to playing your instrument. -- Jeff Antoniuk (saxophone), Steve Herberman (guitar), & Chase Sanborn (trumpet).

Lunch Break - 45-minute break!

Fancy Class of the Day! - Don't Just Play Along
Backing tracks are a fact of life for most people learning to improvise. Useful, for sure, but they can have a negative effect as well if not approached in the right way. Chase shares thougfhts and tips for getting most out of practicing with tracks. -- Chase Sanborn

Practice Time, and Lesson Time With Jeff Antoniuk & Chase Sanborn - During this time each day you have an hour to catch your breath, and to do some practicing of ideas from the morning classes, to bring into your afternoon class. During this time, everyone will get 15 minutes with Jeff or Chase one-on-one, to dig into any burning topics from the Winter Summit or JazzWire. You’ll sign up for your specific time through an upcoming email.
3:30 - 5:00PM
Improv Group - Revisit the morning group and repertoire, armed with the new material from the afternoon classes. -- Jeff Antoniuk & Chase Sanborn
5:30 - 6:30PM
Hang Out & Drinks! - We'll get together on Zoom, to talk, laugh, and enjoy the drink(s) of your choice. The Summit is all about connecting with each other, and we won't let something as silly as hundreds or thousands of miles of separation stop us!

The melodic device often referred to as Triad Pairs is a very compelling concept. It is easy to understand, it is a sound that was used by some of the greatest improvisors, and it is a great way to build our technique as well. We'll talk through various applications and discover some great licks using this idea. -- (Jeff Antoniuk)
