Schedule – Session 1 (Virtual)

Each day, of the three days in the session, we have a fantastic variety of situations that get you playing, improving on your instrument, and get you inspired like never before. We also build in a lot of breaks to allow us to rest our ears and eyes, and to stretch our legs!

Pivotal Tones - Pivotal Tones (also called Money Notes) is a term for specific chord tones that stand out to the ear and act as pivot points for the harmony. Most tunes don’t have many of them, but when you know where they are your ability to deftly negotiate a chord progression is dramatically enhanced.

Cliffordizing - The use of chromatic approach and connecting notes expands melodic/harmonic possibilities to the point that every note is available on every chord. Clifford Brown was a master, thus the title. Here, Chase will demonstrate how to ‘Cliffordize’ a simple phrase and then how the concept might be applied in the course of an improvised solo.
